"Ancient City of Sigiriya"
The first of a series of previously unpublished images of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Located in Central Province Sri Lanka, it was built on the imposing "Lion Mountain" which rises 180m above the surrounding plateau. The fortified citadel was built by King Kassapa I (477–95).
